My Free Google Voice Number
In 1990-ish, when I moved from Santa Monica to Dana Point, I also switched my phone number from my Westside 310 prefix to the Dana Point prefix of 949.
As EVERYONE (who lives on the Central Coast) knows, the ruling prefix for everything from beer to clothing has “805” proudly displayed within its branding.
Considering the number of services, software, bank information, and business contacts associated with my 949 number over the past decades, I decided to stick with the 949 prefix.
Since San Luis Obispo County is my happy place (at this stage of my life) and I certainly do not “need” another phone number, I decided to try out Google Voice, because I would like to have an 805 number so my local clients know I’m local.
Despite having lived on the Central Coast since 2012, having an 805 number now makes me feel more "local."
Why not? It’s free. (as of this writing in early 2026).
So far, I like it. And no worries if it doesn’t work out.
What’s my new LOCAL 805 number?
(805) 242-1565
Give a call and test it out. If I recognize your number, I’ll pick it up if I’m online.
If your call goes to voice mail, just let me know within your VM if you’d like me to phone you back.
I've recently added my new, free 805 number to my Google profile, which has resulted in an influx of spam calls. No problem for me. They go right into junk, and it’s definitely cut down on the spam calls I had been receiving on my 949 number.
P.S. If you choose to not leave me a voicemail message, I will assume your number is spam.
If you want to speak with me, I welcome you to fill out this form and let me know how I can contact you.
